AH CHALLANGE: National State of Lotharingia

Could Franca-Media (Central Francia) have evolved in a national state?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotharingia

For the challange you need to accomplish these requirements.

- POD after 843 AD and before 1500 AD (time enough i guess)
- No unified super monarchy like Austria Hungaria but a unified national state
- A strong national feeling (like French or Americans, may be weaker)
- The following areas must be part of it (or at least the biggest part of it)

-The Netherlands
-Belgium
-Luxembourg
-North Rhine Westphalia
-Rhineland Palapinate
-Saarland
-Lorraine
-Alsace

Bonus if:
- Its ruled by the bishop (theocracie)
- Its not technichly part of the HRE in any way
- The people speak a mixed language of Dutch German and French with Dominant Dutch (or other variation) or either French so German schouldnt be the Dominant Language
-It survives until at least 1850 (no satalite state or Protectorate)

Good luck and have fun!

Also please react i have a small idea how it could work but i really want to know your opinion.

You really want to have all of that? I'm all for the Franks, but this is just trying to unify a group of whole different peoples (with no interest in being united with eachother), and the only thing they had in common was the incompetent ruler.

Still, I suppose it can be done. I once read a TL that had this, and if you make the ruler (Lothair, am I correct) a bit less of a was, it would stand much more of a chance. But still; you're trying to combine French (well, Romano-Celts), Dutch (Franks) and Germans (other Germanic peoples); that really requires empire-like control.

Charles the Bold made a pretty good effort at turning Burgundy into a kingdom in its own right; if he manages to win against the Lorraine-Switzerland alliance that defeated him in OTL he would be in a strong position to claim a royal crown.

You stole my idea, I was going to post this.

Say Charles wins at Nancy in 1477 and has a son with Margaret of York (because without a son his empire would collapse), his Burgundy would survive. (This happens in my AAR). Charles planned to rebuild Middle Francia / Lotharingia, from the Netherlands down to Italy. If he won a great enough victory, he might have been able to subdue Switzerland. Maybe Philibert I of Savoy (an ally of Charles's) dies AIOTL with no heirs in 1482, and nominates Charles to inherit Savoy. This gives Charles a stronghold in Italy that he can use for future conflicts (intervention in the Italian Wars maybe?).
