Africa never colonized

Well, what would happen if europe had never colonized africa, due to either them buying modern weapons from the U.S. or some other reasons. how would this affect europe, how would this affect the rest of the world

ASB in my view but...Africa would be split into many more countries, containing tribes who like each other rather then tribes who can't stand each other. There would still be tribal wars, but fewer then OTL.

One way you might have this happen is to rachet up the disease factor: the people who live there being immune ornearly so, but outsiders die quickly from disease as was the case in OTL early on.

There was a saying "Beware, beware the blight of Benin, for one who comes out there's fifty went in."

Not colonising Africa would almost have to be a European decision, but it's far from implausible. Africa was hardly in need of colonisation. It had its own native elites willing and able to develop their lands economically and cooperate with the Europeans. Actual settler colonies mostly failed miserably, there were people who predicted this, so you could simply have them be listened to. Having no colonies at all is probably still ASB, but limiting direct European rule to North Africa and the Cape is not. The politics of that kind of Africa would be interesting.

Even with a very late Pod (my guess would be even up to 1800) you could limit African colonization to the Cape, Macambique, Angola and the trading posts in western Africa. But to prevent those you really need to limit the colonization of Asia and America. Most of those colonise were founded to support American and Asian colonies. Either to gain easier access to the east (like the Cape) or to get Slaves from to use in the plantations (like the trading posts of Ghana). The other colonies in Africa were founded very late as prestige projects and were more or less useless.

It's not just a case of suddenly buying modern weapons, they would still be unable to compete against even a smilarly armed European Army.

Maybe, if you had an early point of departure whereby say the Phonecians are somehow able to trade up and down most of the west coast, this may aid the regions development. By thr 1800's, even if they are only a century or so behind it might be enough to prevent outright conquest? Some regions would still be consumed however, but it may be enough to allow for a few more independent states.

Another point of departure might be for the USA to dump the entirity of their black/mixed race population onto Liberia, or multiple Liberia's and one or more of those states to be successful and expansionistic.

It would still 'technically' be foreign colonialism, but of a different and quite interesting sort.
