PLUS WHAT benefit will it to be karachi in the 50s ?
And how will the afghan tajik, hazara , uzbek assimilate in this union ?
Makes more sense to have 1 pashtun state on either sides of khyber

How would this effect Bangladesh

How would the Soviets and Indians react
Bangladesh will likely leave the union even earlier

Soviets would like to woo them to be atleast nonaligned

India would not be too affected by it most likely

Soviets will see this as a threat to their central Asian territories - especially if Pakistan is aligned with the US.

I'd expect closer relations between the Soviets and Indians to undermine this unwieldy state.

Maybe not one of the few benefits is that a afghan monarch makes it harder for west pakistan shenanigans this means either with Afghanistan added to Pakistan is justifies west pakistan dominance or monopoly of power will be broken and the nation will be more equal between the states giving the Bangladeshis equal representation. A punajibi, pashtun and Bangladeshi dominated pakistan as a result.

^ Perhaps but I do not feel like many in west pakistan took the bengalis as equals
so pashtuns would discriminate against them just like punjabis and muhajirs

Thats where the monarchy comes into action ultimately if pakistan can stop the dictators and successfully reform (it would need to reform to add Afghanistan) Bangladesh might not break away.

That is too much to ask for a security seeking state ^^^
My first impulse as a good punjabi/muhajir patriot would be to overthrow the king by muslim tribal leaders w/o encouraging any leftist tendencies
the historical enemy of plains of punjab and sindh have been afghans tribesman , so they would need to be kept on a short leash, impoverished , infighting and backward politically...think of a much larger FATA region

Strategic depth,
for pashtuns as they are shielded from india by plains of punjab , and can fallback to punjab if pushed by the soviets
it is not other way round as all the valuble land of pakistan is w/o any major geographical barriers with india
if lets say pak loses punjab and sindh to india in a war, then nonpashtun pakistanis who migrate to afghan lands would probably be enslaved not treated as fellow citizens
elimination of any Pashtun separatism,
on the contrary it stokes it
a unified pashtun nation would be mortal danger to pakistan
and manpower against India
yes but for pashtuns india starts with indus so they would pillage punjab and sindh before they go any further

How a monarchy has a better chance of stopping dictatorships also it can make pakistan a parliament style government.

The monarchy is constitutional no power pakistan won't accept anything less.
afghan king as no formal army to speak of
punjabi buearacracy has control of 1/3 of battle tested indian army aka pak army

why should non pashtuns listen to king zahir shah ?

Easier to appose dictators believe it not but pakistan dictators werent popular. Can keep tge government more stable in parliamentary system. No president no power struggles between who gets all the power.

Could a confederation between Afghanistan and Pakistan be created during the 1950s

What would be the impact on Pakistan and Afghanistan

How would this effect Bangladesh

How would the Soviets and Indians react

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghanistan–Pakistan_relations#Confederation_proposal
I had the same wikipedia page at the bottom of the OP

Perhaps with a weaker afghanistan that doesn't conquer nuristan and northern afghanstan. Perhaps no Abdur rahman khan and the rump afghan state is a broken up as multiple princely states.
