Aerial refueling was first acomplished in 1923, and experimented with extensively in the years afterwards. It was made relatively safe in 1935 when a no-leak system was developed.
Suppose that someone had adopted in in the years from 1935 to 1939. What are some possible results in the Second World War?
Germany: Battle of Britian, the planes are able to refuel over France after take off, therefore having more time over Britian.
USA: Fighter escorts deeper into Germany, and longer range bombing raids, since the planes can refuel after take off.
Downside for both nations: More aircraft needed per combat plane, to provide tanker support. Occasional losses to refueling accidents.
I see a lot of possibilities here...care to speculate on possible effects?
