Adolf Hitler marries Maria Reiter.

So, I was reading up on Adolf Hitler's love life, and came upon this little tidbit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Reiter

Maria, it appears, is to Hitler as Kato was to Stalin; The women in their lives who, if they had stuck around, could have curbed their violent tendencies.

So, here's the deal.

In 1931, Hitler marries Reiter, despite his concerns that marrying a divorcée may tarnish his political reputation.

What happens after this?

Well, I tried to make a TL where he had kids with her in 1934 after becoming the Fuhrer. He would probably look a little more humane in the end, and maybe a less harsh rule.

It does not tarnish his political reputation that much as Germany was still in the midst of an epic economic depression. The people wanted solutions to their woes and it seemed to them that Hitler was the only one who could do that. Other alternatives to him (the Weimar government and the Communists) would either do nothing or make the situation worse (at least, according to Nazi propaganda).

So, say Hitler still manages to become Reichschancellor, would being married, and to someone he loved, (Not to mention someone sane) curb his violent and/or imperialistic tendencies? If not that, then would it at least keep him more logical?

I don't know about you guys but Id trust a man that had kids and wife over a man that simply had a girlfriend.

Being able to take on the responsibility of supporting a family is a good thing in my opinion. It might distract him from his political career, but his public opinion might only go up.

it could have actually made him worse.

Here is a nasty scenario during the election campaigns of the early 30s someone grabs his family and kills her and his kids. Now Imagine how a man with his mental issues would take this he could very well end up much much nastier and even crueler

for all the extermination of the Jews it could have been much much crueler

That's one possibility, another could be that such a tragedy could break him completely and result in a total withdrawal from public life into bitter seclusion.

If Hitler leaves politics in the early 30's, what becomes of the NSDAP?

Hard to figure anyone could really fill his leadership role in the party and Germany could see yet another government collapse.

A possibilty strikes me, that not only does he marry her, he falls completley head-over-heels for her, so much so he leaves politics. Though even I admit it's not the likliest outcome, it would I think essentially kill the NSDAP just because Hitler was such a driving force behind it. Of course, it could be that without Hitler, some other Nazi or other simply steps in.

He uses his newfound passion for life to become the best painter in Europe.

Instead of becoming a competent architectural painter with poor figure skills, she becomes his muse and he paints her non stop.

I'm not so sure I'd be comfortable to be sitting in a museum admiring their collection of Hitler nudes.

Okay then. So say that Hitler marries Reiter in '31, while the NSDAP is almost at the peak of it's power.

Reiter somehow manages to convince Hitler to retire from political life, retires from the NSDAP at the point where they need him most, right before the '32 elections, and the final '33 election before Hitler becomes dictator.

Hitler and Reiter go on to open a pub in Bavaria, have five children, etc. etc.

What happens during the '32 and '33 elections? I imagine with their frontman gone and no time to reorganize, the NSDAP would probably lose at least half it's votes.

We would probably see the SPD pull ahead and win a plurality in the 32 and 33 elections, I'd think.

(Or, if we're really unlucky, we'd see the KPD win instead.)

the bohemian corporal Girlfriend doesn't was Germania?

Well, the POD is interesting, but why all here say than the bohemian Corporal will abadon politics so easy, after his imprisioment in Landberg, his goal was to become the 'leader'(read president) of Germany, and the literally doorstopper who he wrote was for that...

Well,if he's out automatically means than Hindenburg will not have a 'great alliance' but again hindenburg is enough popular to won the election, but again without the bohemian corporal, he won't run for reelection, and that means than the right will look for another candidate(who? Von Papen, Scheider, Oskar von Hinderburg or maybe Kronpriz Wilhelm?), again with the bohemian corporal thanks to his waifu is a big one... deserved another topic...

but make the butterflies statics and he become fuhrer in 33, how now the bohemian corporal being a family man will act as Fuhrer?

that is my question
