Admiral Eisenhower?

Eisenhower applied for the Naval Academy before being accepted to Westpoint. What if he joined the Navy, how would he have turned out?

Unlikely that he would have ended up as President. Most likely you would have seen MacArthur as President. Admirals don't usually make it into any high political office - two exceptions being Horthy and Donitz (but by the time they became of the leaders of their countries they were virtually without any navies). As far as I can recall only US Admirals George Dewey and James Stockdale have come close.

The contributions of the navy are frequently overlooked by the public and there are just alot more stature associated with being a general.

Oddly the only Navy men of any rank who made the White House were Carter and Kennedy. (Nixon?)

True, completely forgot about them. However, unlike OTL Eisenhower they did not transition directly from military life to the Presidency - which I'm guessing the WI has to deal with.

I think you are correct, as Admiral Eisenhower, he probably would have not become the 34th President in 1953.

George H.W. Bush was a carrier pilot. LBJ served in the navy during WW2. Nixon was in the navy. Also Ford

What about WWII in Europe? What happens without Ike? What does he end up doing in the navy?

Honestly, you guys are talking about the presidency when this man played an integral part in Europe during the war......

He was a Contemporary of Admiral King, It is possible with his political skills Ike could have ended up as Admiral of the Navy. And unlike King who disliked the British, Ike got along lots better.

This could lead to more cooperation between the Navies in the Critical 1938-1942 period.
Maybe some American Destroyers based in Bermuda and the Bahamas for Atlantic patrols

Bob Taft gets the nomination instead of Eisenhower, wins, but dies shortly after taking office, leading to the presidency of whoever his vice presidential candidate is(possibly Earl Warren).

In WWII, most likely the naval war goes better then in OTL, and the land war goes pretty much on schedule, possibly a little worse.

Possibly much better. Ike would be junior to King, Edwards, & Nimitz, & probably in the same class as Lockwood, so he wouldn't get really high postings prewar, but senior to Christie, so during the war, he'd probably get the senior Sub Force job in SWP (presuming he isn't CoS to Edwards in London or something, & never heard from again...:(). Since he wouldn't be in conflict of interest over the Mk14 & Mk6, as Christie was, he'd probably authorize trials which might get the problems solved before OTL Sept '43. This has important effects on the PTO.

Maybe not. Who was senior enough to get Ike's slot if he didn't? And strong-willed enough to keep both Patton & Monty on short leash? FDR wanted to hang onto Marshall, Monty was unlikely (U.S. would insist on an American), Patton was busy getting bitch-slapped at FUSAG,:p IMO Brad is to junior... Stilwell?
