Adlai Stevenson

He wins in 1952 against an unnamed Republican challenger (not Eisenhower, who does not run). What would his administration have been like? How to the southern conservatives take to it?

h He does work on civil rights which angers Southern conservatives. Does anyone think he handle Iran,Guatamala or Cuba differently?

Does Eisenhower having a heart attack in the spring of 1952 achieve this?

By the way assuming a victory in 1952 I still have to wonder about 1956, if only in reaction to 6 elections running

Considering the quagmire in Korea and 20 straight years of Democratic rule, a Stevenson presidency is unlikely unless the GOP nominates Taft, and the Dems are able to paint him as too conservative.

But assuming a Stevenson victory, I don't see much done on civil rights. He was pretty moderate on that issue. He was also a Cold War liberal, so he may have been more hawkish and less willing to cut Defense than Ike did.

The handling of the Suez Crisis might be one of the major differences.
Domestically again, I don't see massive New Deal programs.
