September 28th 1978: The Shah of Iran suffers a fatal stroke, his 17 year old son, Reza Pahlavi assumes the throne.

September 29th 1978: The new Shah, announces the end of the one-party system and new elections in February.

October 15th 1978:
Giovanni Colombo is elected Pope after the Death of Pope Pope John Paul I. Colombo takes the name, Leo.

November 27th 1978: Harvey Milk narrowly escapes an assassination attempt, Mayor Moscone is killed though. Dianne Feinstein becomes Mayor of San Francisco.

February 9th 1979: The Freedom Movement of Iran wins a majority of seats in the Iranian Parlament. Mehdi Bazargan, becomes Prime Minister of Iran

After 1979, The Iranian Revolution settles down after the death of the old Shah, thus there is no Oil Crisis, and the economy doesn't fall apart. Ted Kennedy doesn't primary Carter, and The U.S. wins the most medals at the 1980 Olympics.

November 4th 1980: Jimmy Carter is re-elected President of The United States.
