Aden remains part of British India

What if Aden continues to be governed as a part of British India under the Bombay Presidency? You know not being detached and becoming a separate Crown Colony. Meh, entertain me.

I do mean the Colony of Aden, not the Aden Protectorate.

It becomes a non-contiguous part of Pakistan like Bengladesh and probably around the same time as the Bengalis, revolts and declares itself independent.

If it was lumped in with Pakistan after partition you could have them swap it with Oman for Gwadar along with a reduced payment in the mid-50s.

That could have interesting consequences for the Aden Protectorate in the long term.

Why would this remain part of India at all? There's no reason for it other than administrative convenience under the Raj.

Significant Indian settlement of Aden Colony for one. It's just a question worth asking. Much more so than the same old tripe that gets asked about Hitler and Operation Sealion.

The Indian Invasion of Pakistani Aden will be the new Sealion. :p

More seriously i think Simon's got it right. An alternate idea though is that Pakistan might see the writing on the wall (too much trouble to hold this little port), and give it to Saudi Arabia. They've always had pretty friendly relations with each other.

It was hardly a little port. It was a fairly significant naval station for the British in South Arabia throughout the 19th and 20th centuries and has a wonderful natural harbor (and had a coaling station) for container ships and tankers to dock in and resupply. After the loss of the Suez Canal, Aden became the premier British base in the peninsula. Its economy was dominated by a major oil refinery owned by BP.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned any involvement by North Yemen.

As Faeelin says, there's no reason why it would gain Independence along with India, even if it was administratively part of British India.

I have previously considered PoDs that would result in Aden and/or the Trucial Emirates becoming majority Indian. It might be possible in a no First Word War TL where British oil companies engage in major oil exploration/exploitation and ship in large numbers of Indian workers.

Actually, the majority of the people in the UAE are from South Asia. (They aren't citizens, of course. Emiratis are only about 20% of the population.)
