ACW Challenge: Make the Civil War happen earlier

Exactly what it says on the tin. Make the Union have it's split earlier than it did in OTL

There are several rules in this challenge. First, the Civil War has to take place in the early 1850s at the latest. I'll set the mark at before Franklin Pierce became President. In the late 1850s, simply having Frémont win in the '56 election would do the trick.

Second, no North-secession sceneros à la Decades of Darkness and no having the Union break up in it's infancy. I want the civil war to be under similar circumstances to OTL (albeit with differences due to the earlier time), i.e. it should be about slavery.

Have fun!

I believe that the issues under Zachary Taylor over slavery could have led to Civil War. Perhaps if he lives longer (since live span is influenced by stress, eating habits, etc which people generally ignore in ATL's), things go differently and he'd not allow the Compromise of 1850 leading to a secession crisis and Civil war.

Here's how I could see this happening -

c.1770 - The American Revolution is avoided by conferring 'dominion' status on the British colonies.
1803 - British and Colonial forces conquer French Lousiana. State by state, this territory is gardually assimilated into The Dominion of British America.
1807 - The slave trade is abolished in the British Empire.
1833 - Britain abolishes slavery in it's Empire. This provokes the Southern States of the Dominion of America (especially former French Louisiana) to revolt against British rule. The French and Spanish, who have become increasingly angered by the Royal Navy's heavy-handed tactics against their slave ships, openly support the Republican movement in the South.

You could have very well had a Civil War over the Nullification Crisis. That would've been interesting too with Andrew Jackson around.

Have Senator Foote accidentally shoot and kill Vice President Fillmore during his pistol-waving altercation with Senator Benson.

--> When Taylor dies later that summer, Senator King of Alabama becomes President, until a special election can be held that fall.
--> Hence, no Compromise of 1850 ; both sides will want to wait until their man becomes President the following March.
--> Foote is expelled from Senate, and ruined politically.
--> This lets his rival Jefferson Davis wins governorship of Mississippi the following year; he's likely to push for secession.

In writing the constitution, the delegates attempt to ban slavery alltogether. South secedes. End of story.

Assuming that that violates OP, however, you could have the Mexican-American war end in disaster for the USA, thus keeping the USA as Louisiana=west border. There are repeated attempts to spread slavery into the great plains, but congress somehow defeats each one. With a growing northern majority in the Senate, the south breaks off.
