This collaborative timeline will cover the events of this decade as it nears it’s climax; I’m limiting the timeline to the years 2010 through 2020 with the aim of having as much detail packed in as possible. I’d love to see events listed for nearly every day, and I’m excited to see where this effort will lead as we rewrite the history of our last decade – there are a few ground rules, of course, but on the whole I’m looking forward to where we’ll take this.

Rules and Guidelines
1. Events must be approved by a general consensus of the contributors before being added to the cannon.
2. I do have a few events that I really want to throw into the mix in regards to the 2012, 2016, and 2020 presidential campaigns – we all have strong opinions right now, but I want to keep it fair and realistic. So when we roll around to these events, I’ll probably be regulating entries a bit more stridently to ensure that we don’t have landslides for our favorite candidates on a whim, etc, etc. Also, elections will be decided by a means yet to be determined - something akin to a dice roll that takes into account already existing circumstances.
4. I’d prefer to keep entries to be a bit more detailed than one sentence that ends with three dots….
5. Pictures are always a bonus! All I ask is that we try and keep them reasonably sized and limited to one per post. Major events would warrant an image for example.
6. We'll go one day at a time. I'd love to see as many cultural and sports contributions as possible, because they add an interesting flair to the timeline.

January, 2010
Friday, January 1st, 2010: Same-sex marriage officially is made legal in New Hampshire. Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), widely seen as a potential Republican Presidential candidate in 2012, joins former Attorney General and Senate candidate Kelly Ayotte at a Tea Party rally in Concord where he denounces homosexuality as “a tear in America’s moral fabric.”

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010: Governor Charlie Crist (R-FL), seeking the Senate seat of the retiring Mel Martinez (R-FL), speaks out against Rick Santorum’s “divisive rhetoric” in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times. Crist also criticizes his primary opponent, former State House Speaker Marco Rubio, as being prone to collaborating with “the unelectable elements” of the GOP. Tea Party activists across the state are irritated by Crist’s comments, only further eroding the Governor's position within his own party.

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010: On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Michael Steele dismisses moderator David Gregory’s questions about an ideological civil war in the Republican Party as “preposterous.” Steele insists that the party will “hold an open process” in which “the grassroots can air their concerns.” Tea Party leaders and influential conservative voices like Rush Limbaugh express outrage on social media.

Monday, January 4th, 2010: Tea Party favorite and Palin ally Judge Joe Miller announces his candidacy for Senate, challenging incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) in the Republican primary. A poll of Alaskan voters shows Miller trailing Murkowski by a considerable margin.
