Most Kentuckians did not, however, support the rebellion
Most Kentuckians did not, however, support the rebellion, hence the reality of Kentucky's place among the loyal states. Likewise, Lincoln's family were not planter class, by any stretch of the imagination; he's more likely to remain a loyalist, like (for example) Butler, Terrill, etc.
Davis, being who he is (even as a "northernor") is probably as likely to bow out as join up - sort of a Alexander Doniphan or Alfred Mordechai-like figure. Or he goes west, like Joe Lane, and bows out that way...
As stated, he could have done what Davis and any number of men from the deep south did historically; he chose not to ... so even if he's a northernor, then the options run close to the gamut for avoiding service.
Best,
Those things weren't ingrained in them from birth, however. If Lincoln grew up with slaves in slave owning Kentucky, then I assume he would support slavery, like most southerners did. Even if he wasn't from the deep south.
If Davis moved north, then he has no reason to support slavery. Even in OTL he was against sucession, so maybe that in TTL leads him to either a higher office or (more likely) a military career. If he's seen as a war hero, maybe instead of Grant, he could easily be elected to the presidency in the late 1860s or 1870s.
Maybe US President Davis' term is from 1869 - 1877; elected in the 1868 election, reelected in the 1872 election. He steps down after two terms, like most Presidents, and the 1876 election goes to Tilden, who was a democrat like Davis, and almost won in OTL.
