I was reading a discussion here on dystopic Presidents of the United States, and I was intrigued by a long discussion on the relative merits of Mayor Daley and John Lindsay. The consensus of that thread is that Lindsay was a terrible Mayor of NYC. So with that in mind I pose the question, what if Lindsay had never been Mayor in the first place. I'm not sure how workable this is, but say Lindsay loses to Beame in the election that made Lindsay Mayor of NYC historically. What happens to New York City. Are things worse or better for that particular city?
