Abbas I doesn't reform his army. Consequences in Persia?

WI Robert Shirley and his brother Anthony had never gone to Persia, where they met the Sha Abbas I? They started trade between England and Persia, sending European arms there, and this ultimately led to a reformation of the Persian army. With this new army, Abbas I conducted victorious campaigns against the Ottomans and the Portuguese.

So, if Abbas I had not reformed the army in the period between 1599 and 1615, what could be the consequences? Could the Ottomans gain more territories? And, if they could do it, which territories would they conquer?

One obvious change is that the Persians remain in the Gulf and the Kingdom of Ormus (Hormuz) remains in Portuguese hands. The Portuguese were the Ottoman's strongest rivals in the Gulf and the Indian Ocean, so this might actually work against the Ottomans. I don't know enough about that side of things to comment.

I think you're right, the Portuguese would have more time to secure their possessions. However, it depends on how stronger the Ottomans can become with a weaker Persia. Maybe the Portuguese territory would be saved from the Persians just to be lost to the Ottomans.

Let's say I'm just doing some research...;)

Well, if you do plan on expanding (and I confess I feel like I'm forcing it on you), it would be wise to take a week off Portuguese affairs.

What do you do IRL? All the work you're doing must be taking a lot of time.

Well, I'm quite plenty of time now, because I'm only working during the mornings, so I have all the rest of the day to research if I want.
