A World without Rome

Essentially, what would the world look like if Rome either never became powerful or was destroyed before its rise to power? Which tribes/nations would fill the power vacuum without a Roman Republic/Empire?

Depends what is POD but it is very hard to say what would even Italy be without Rome. We don't even know much about early Roman Republic. Without Rome things would be very unrecognsible.

I haven't dug into it yet, but I know the weighted scales deals with a Rome that is "aborted". It looks like a good quality TL, too.

The problem with any discussion about this is that butterflies would be so immense we could discuss for 100 pages and not get anywhere.

Rome was such an important part of the history of the Old World (Europe, Africa and Asia) that speculation on what the world would have looked like without it would be almost necessarily groundless. If only because it was the entity that spread the Abrahamic religions to such an extent that they would become dominant in most of the known world.

Without Rome, Christianity is a minor cult and Islam likely does not develop in any recognizable fashion.

Christianity as we know it is riddled with references to Rome in the new testament. Paul even tailored his form of christianity to A Roman audience.
Christianity without Rome would also be unrecognisable. If it even came about. Which is debatable.
