A wife for George, Duke of Cambridge

So this was somewhat inspired by a thread by @wwbgdiaslt, in otl George, Duke of Cambridge married his mistress Sarah Fairbrother, without permission from the sovereign, thus meaning the marriage wasn't seen as official and his children couldn't inherit his titles. My query is this, what if either he seeks approval from the sovereign and somehow the marriage is given consent by Victoria, or he marries someone else with the monarch's approval?

Who could serve as an alternate bride for the Duke?

We have many Grand duchesses who could have married George (Olga Nicolaevna. Maria, Elisabeth and Catherine Mikhailovna) I would favor the union of George with the Grand Duchess Maria Mikhailovna they could have been married in 1842 before George had the first child with Sarah

George of Cambridge and Maria Mikhailovna - 1842 (23 and 17)
1843 George
1845 Adolphus
1847 Maria

**George and Adolphus would certainly be serious candidates for the hands of Princess Louise (1848) and Helene (1846) of United Kingdom - given the fact that they are British and have close ages. Maria could marry the Crown Prince of Netherlands or Italy or the duke of Edinburgh between 1865-1867.
Maria Mikhailovna certainly would not live much, as she did not, which would open the way for her death, if George marries with whoever he might, but heirs to his title

George abs Maria sounds good to me

I'm considering having George's son George becoming Prince or King Consort for Victoria's daughter also named Victoria, in a scenario where Victoria and Albert have only surviving daughters. Your thoughts @QueenMaud would be much appreciated.

George had a natural distaste for arranged marriages - despite his parents ambitions for him to marry Victoria.
By all accounts Sarah Fairbrother was disliked by the entire family - unlike say the wife of his uncle the Duke of Sussex who Victoria made a Duchess in her own right Sarah was effectively ignored - he also had a series of affairs and other mistresses.

Hmm interesting, would it be possible for him to fall in love with either a lady of the nobility or a foreign princess do you think?

I'd also chip in that Georgie is perhaps too "low" for Maria Mikhailovna? Her sisters married a duke and the second-in-line to a grand ducal throne. George is pretty far from a throne, even after Victoria succeeds, that the Russians would consider him. His competition for Maria would be the grand duke of Baden (whose brother married Luise of Prussia) AFAIK.

Hmm interesting, do you think that a local lass from the nobility or perhaps a minor German Princess is more likely?

Well, as @mcdnab pointed out, George has no liking of arranged marriages and came back to London in 1837 (which makes a German princess a spot unlikely - unless we can maybe marry him to one of Queen Adelaide's nieces (I know there were a couple of Ida's kids who domiciled in Britain, just not sure when) when his dad's tenure as viceroy ended or in the 1840s. So some buxom English or Scots duke or marquess' daughter (earl might be considered too low) might be more likely. Bonus points if the two fall in love while she's engaged to someone else, there's a pistols at dawn moment (maybe Comte d'Orsay as a second just for hilarity), and the duke is wounded, the fiancé flees the country and the duke and his bonnie Scots lass/English rose get married ;)

Sounds about saccharine enough to appeal to Victorian sensibilities

Aha I like it. I wonder, if Victoria and Albert only had daughters, would the Duke's son by this marriage be considered worthy of marrying the future Queen?

I believe that they are not just as dignified as they would be a marriage much desired by the English - victoria enjoyed marriages '' at home '' because they brought less political problems
About George and Maria Mikhailovna still advocate such a union, since their sisters did not make such brilliant marriages - Catherine, for example, married the second son of a Grao Duke

Interesting, so you think George’s truebkrb son could marry Victoria princess royalQ.

I think it would be lovely in a scenario where Victoria becomes Queen she marries an English prince, but due to the age difference maybe a union might not occur - Queen Victoria married at 21 if I'm not mistaken, if Victoria married at 21 Also, George (1843) would be very new to her. Entretante I believe that he and his brother would be the ideal candidates for Louise, Helene or Beatrice
To see Victoria married to an English Prince we could think of the following way =
Mary (1776-1857) and William (1776-1834), dukes of Gloucester - Marry in 1801
1803 Stilborn
1807 George (duke of Gloucester)
George (1810-1883) Marry Marie Amelie of Baden (1817-1888) in 1835
1836 Willian
1838 Charles
1841 Mary Victoria
In this scenario we could have Victoria marrying William or Charles between 1858-1861

Or one could simply have George duke of Cambridge marrying at the same time as his cousin
