A WI: Olga Nikolaevna becomes Regent for Alexei

Before the Revolution, the Duma wanted Olga Nikolaevna to be Regent for her brother Alexei. My opinion is that putting Olga on the throne would have been the Czardom's best option (as opposed to best *possible* option... Regency was acceptable, but making Olga N. Empress was impossible in those times. All the men in the line of succession would have screamed blue murder.)

So, Nicholas II, who had been showing signs of heart disease before his death, dies of a heart attack in 1913 and eighteen-year-old Olga N. becomes Regent.

Olga was the one person in his family that Nicholas discussed politics with. She might have been able to handle the job. who else could it have gone to? Michael had disgraced himself with his marriage and the next male would be Vladimir's lineage.

Depends on her response to the July crises- would she have risked War we have no idea. She wouldn't have faced the criticism her mother did

Olga was the most intelligent and brave of Nicholas II's daughters. She read the newspapers, she kept up to date on politics. Accounts state that at the time of the Revolution that she sensed the mood of the country, knew about the lack of support for her parents.
