Assume that Great Britain, France and other colonial powers were all facing the problem of what to do with black slaves in 1783 to 1815.

At the same time, America was considering emanciapation in 1790's under Jefferson.

It was clear for most that slavery was on the wane and not desirable long term.

Without the slave trade, the tiny European controlled enclaves along African Coast (mainly slave trading forts) were no longer assets at all but liabilities.

What if the assorted collection of Anti-slavery proponents, "Back to Africa" freed slaves, idealists, adventurers, etc came together and formed a "West Africa Company" along the lines of the "East India Company" to resettle former slaves from assorted European colonies into one viable settlement?

The Company would become the local equivilent of the East India Company's evolving mandate that went from trade to governing a subcontinent.

In OTL, these attempts were haphazard and short-term. However, a super-colony where all European former colonial masters had equal rights to trade, etc, might be appealing.

With greater resettlement of New World freedmen, along with perhaps some Indian and Chinese "Sepoys", develope a significant colony along west Africa?

I'm imagining a "UN" of former colonial overlords supporting this system as it reduces administrative costs and prevents any of the "litter mentality" that permeated the 19th century. With no one feeling left out of the spoils of Africa, the division of the continent into colonies in the 1870's would never occur. Instead, this new Africa Company might assume treaties with the various chiefs under a central confederation backed by Europe.

How far could this go?

There was a general peace from 1815 to 1860's in Europe and America.
