A Viking Tale - The Wayward Merchant (livestock in North America)

I had an idea for a short story along these lines... basically, that the Europeans arrive in NA and find the natives are a horse nomad culture who really cause them problems when they try to take over land, far beyond what they did in OTL... the story would revolve around a person who comes to realize that (due to a passage in the Greenlanders Saga), that the Norse were the ones who brought horses to the natives...

Given enough time, imagine the fun if America could develop a horse culture similar to the Mongol hordes. :D

for one ore two times when the spanish or whoever thinks he can make it try again they will be prepared (so are the indianas i think)

would a nomadic horse archer culture have a big impact on the aztecs and other more ´civelized´ people or is it to late

Mmm, Khanate of the Sioux...:D

I've thought of that. In fact, genetically, some Native Americans are (very distant) cousins to the Mongols. But, I still want to know where historical sources of iron, bronze, tin, etc. were. I know there's iron around the Great Lakes and in Brazil, and bronze around the Amazon, and Montana/North Dakota (I think).

Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. I do not believe you can find Bronze in a tural form. Thande?
As I sad before lots of copper around the great lakes, and theres a couple scattered around the rockies. Theres also Iron in Northern Quebec. Tins more difficult as there aren't that many big sources for it, so you're going to have to do some more local research. The only thing i can contribute is that there was a Tin mine in Ely, nevada in OTL. Does that help at all?

There's also a lot of copper in Northern Chile (the south of the Incan empire around 1470). And plenty of silver and Tin in western Bolivia (also under the Incan rule).

I can't remember if they had turkeys or not. Does anyone know?

The Mississippi Culture around 1000 AD did have Turkeys and Dogs and corn and several other types of native plants growing in their fields. They were in Ohio and upper Mississippi, had trade all along the Gulf Coast and some parts of Northeast of American. All from items found on Mississippi mound sites.

When I said bronze, I actually meant copper. I was looking at mindat.org (I'm not sure how accurate that is to what would have been available to ancient cultures). It places copper all over the place in North America, but tin is only in a handful of places, including New Hampshire/Vermont. Iron was all around the Great Lakes and areas in the American Southwest, it seems, too.

I also keep reading about this iron ore meteorite deposit in Mexico. How large is it? I can't seem to find data on that. I doubt it would be enough to make a whole lot, though.
