A US-Canadian War following the Civil War?

I was wondering if the Fenian Raids could have tipped the scales to war between the United States and the British Empire. With the war over the US has a ton of mobilized soldiers while the British have a veteran standing army. So how would the war go?

The US, immediately after the civil war is unlikely to start another war of conquest

Additionally the Fenian raids, while problematic at a local level for Canada, were never really going to meet any success in creating a “new Ireland” in Canada

Canada has immense sympathy for the union during the war, and Britain is not going to start a war against a major power with such slim provocation, such minimal potential gains, and such massive potential losses.

What I think could be interesting would be like a larger tacit support for the Fenians on the part of the US. Like the Navy doesn't interfere with the raids, the US government secretly providing them with funds and weapons. Could create more tension between Britain and the US and turn the Fenians into a larger threat.

Why would they do this? The US has its hands full reintegrating the South and subduing the Native Americans, is deep in debt, and hasent gotten a cold shoulder from London in handling post-CW settlements. What on earth is motivating them to poke the lion with a stick?

Short answer: no, the Fenian raids aren't enough to start this war.

Long answer: oh hell no. The Union is war-weary and don't care to suffer the economic damage involved in fighting the British Empire, and Great Britain isn't interested in losing Canada to invasion.

I think you need the St. Albans Raid to be bloodier and Booth to be taken and tried, proceedings which include allegations of British support for his conspiracy.
