A Ugandan-Israeli War?

In the documentary General Idi Amin Dada: A Self Portrait, Amin, while justifying the Holocaust, says that he is planning a future war with Israel, which would have involve strike aircraft, paratroopers, and squads of suicide bombers from all over the world trained in Uganda. He said that volunteers from all over the world were already undergoing three-month training courses in suicide bomb school in Uganda.

Here is him discussing his war plans in that documentary, acting as insane as always.

So what if he had actually tried to carry out these plans?

I'd imagine major counter air campaigns against Uganda's military. Israel doesn't have the logistical capabilities to go back to Uganda, but they sure as hell could fuck up their plans.

I could see Uganda sending an expeditionary force to fight alongside enemies of Israel who are closer. Ugandans in the Bekaa Valley?

I found an article from 2009 saying that Uganda's first paratroopers in 30 years had completed training, so they would have had them during Amin's rule. The only modern aircraft they had were 21 MiG-21s though, so they didn't have enough strike aircraft to fight Israel even if you hand-wave them getting there.

Did Uganda's strike aircraft & paratroopers have the range to reach Israel?

No, and even if they did, they'd get wiped out almost immediately. The Ugandan AF's best planes were MiG-21s, and they only had a handful of those.

EDIT: Damn. Got ninja'd.

This doesn't sound so much a war as a major terrorist strike.

Nonetheless, expect _massive_ retaliation from Israel and condemnation from the rest of the world. And I agree, I don't see either Egypt or Syria being happy with this or helping...

Hmmm....well the documentary was done in 1974. So if Amin only had the plans in 1974 then there is no major Arab-Israeli conflict he could have involved himself in before his overthrow in 1979.

At best he might have been able to have his old pal Gaddaffi help him out in Lebanon in 1978 and you have a Libyan-Ugandan expeditionary force in Lebanon fighting the Israelis or maybe a Ugandan strike on Israeli facilitated by Libya in retaliation for the 1978 Litani Operation by Israel.

The "best" case scenario for something to happen would be for Amin to cut back on the stupidity long enough to make it to late 1982 and then he could maybe cut an unofficial deal with Syria during the Lebanon War (which involved Israeli-Syrian fighting) and get himself involved in that conflict (again with Libyan assistance).
