So, many here are aware that the post-WWII referendum in Italy, which concerned whether or not to restore the monarchy, was a very regionally divisive affair, which, if things had gone south, could have resulted in two competing Italian governments dividing the peninsula.

In this scenario, many would also state that the northern Republic would seek aid and alignment from the USSR.
