So, planning a novel with two points of divergence, one is the survival of Mainline of the capet dynasty, the second is Edward III dying in 1327/8 after his father has been removed from the throne.
My query is this, assuming Edward III dies and in order o keep good relations with Hainaut for trade etc, would roger Mortimer and the regency council for the new John II apply for a dispensation for John to marry Philippa of Hainaut? Would Philippa need to do a Catherine of Aragon and day the marriage hadn’t been consummated? Or would he regency council look elsewhere?
As for the survival of the capets I’m debating if it should be louis le Hutin surviving, or if his youngest brother Robert should survive into adulthood. Of the latter, who could Robert marry? If the former, how would that change things?
