A test of friendship

Okay, so I've been following the most recent Belgium political crisis closely.
I know that the Walloon separatists favor integration into France (and certain French newspapers have enthusiastically backed the idea). That got me thinking: suppose that Belgium split apart, and that France agreed to absorb Wallonia, how would Great Britain react to such a project? Undoubtedly French annnexation is a highly remote scenario (though the partition of Belgium, regrettably, is not). What I'd be interested to find out is whether Britain trusts France enough to overlook its long-observed policy of protecting Belgium from Europe's great powers. Would Albion allow the fears of the 18th and 19th centuries to resurface, or would it consider French intentions as being pacific? What would the former case entail?

Well, when I get the time, I'll try to write an AH scenario where Belgium splits apart. I daresay it would be relevant to the current political situation.

I doubt the UK would worry a second about such a union.

Mostly because the French would be sticking their nose in a hornet's nest.
Not to insult any Walloon, but their problems are so big, I'd doubt France would be interested in an annexation.

Also I doubt the Walloon politicians would be interested in such a union.
Their voters would also lose interest fast as soon as they understand what the consequences would be of such a union.
