A Swedish king of England

In 1654 Charles X of Sweden refused to let his brother marry Prince Rupert's sister, Sophia of the Palatine, first cousin of the exiled king Charles 2nd because it would annoy Cromwell. Sophia eventually married the Elector of Hanover, which created the dynasty that currently reigns in England.

It is the kings decision that prevented a swedish royal house from sitting on the English throne.

But what if Price Rupert's brother was allowed to marry Sophia. Would this allow Charles X to claim the throne of england after Cromwell dies instead of Charles 2nd.

does this have the potential to become a War of English Succession?

I only say that if this because: if King of Sweden wanted the English throne for himself and he could back up his claim with a large enough army and if he could invade England before Charles 2nd the throne would be his.
Although I am not sure how the English people would feel having a Swedish king

No.

He'd have no support whatsoever, as Chales and James are still alive.

Then there's the fact the house of Orange get a look in first in the sucession.

However, if the Stuart line does die out, then a Swedish line in place of the Hannovarians is possible.

Simplest way is to have Charles X die before 1654. In that event, the brother, Adolf John, becomes King and can marry as he pleases. [1]

That makes Sophia Queen of Sweden, and if English history continues as OTL, a child or grandchild of hers will ascend the English throne in 1714.

I doubt the crowns would be united. More likely, one or the other would be transferred to a younger son; but if at some point during the interval, Sweden had conquered Norway from Denmark, then such a union would be geographically possible. Whether it would be politically possible is another matter.

[1] Charles X's only child, the future Charles XI, was not born until 1655.

Sweden and England could have been a personal union 100 years earlier. Crownprince Erik was one of those proposing to Elisabeth I before Gustav 1 Vasa died. He was actually on his way to England and present himself when the news came that Gustav Vasa had died and the idea had to be scrapped.

He ended up marrying a commoner and then going mentally insane and overthrown.

A swedish king wouldnt marry off any siblings to England since it was better to have allies in Germany

Strictly speaking, Sophia was German, not English. She was the sister of the Elector Palatine. That, incidentally, makes her a distant cousin of Charles X and his brother, as the Swedish royal family were Wittelsbachs.
