This is completely implausible. If Wallace isn't shot, how will that make him do better in any of the six remaining states, none of which he had any chance in, with the exception of New Mexico? Never mind that even winning all six of those states wouldn't give him the delegates to be nominated. You give no explanation of how he wins, you just say he isn't shot, he wins two primaries he won IOTL, and then boom, he's the nominee. It doesn't work that way.

And those are just the problems during the primaries. If you think Mondale would agree to run with Wallace, you're mistaken. In fact, almost all northern Democrats would refuse to support him. I could easily see McGovern -- or even someone like Fred Harris, or even Humphrey -- leading a third-party effort, and there would no doubt be one which would siphon tons of votes from the Democrats. Depending on ballot access and the nominee, that party might even get more votes than Wallace. There's absolutely no way Wallace wins the general.

I was just reading some books and collecting George Wallace memorabillia and it gave me the idea, after looking back it, I am not going to continue this and just focus on my oter TL.

Do you actually like Wallace?

Also, what were your plans for his Presidency?

He has a rather large following on this forum.

He does? Who likes him? Looking at the 1968 Retrospective Election, he got six votes, and the only ones I know are Ariosto (who I think of as more moderate generally), AStanley (who was a Tea Partier), and Stalin. Also Henry Ford, who I guess is a troll?

Do I like him as being a figure of racism no, but I find him to be an extremely interesting political figure, I also collect political memorabilia from any other major political figure as well, I just happen to find a lot his buttons and tokens in flea markets where I live.

Also, if I offended anyone I apologize I was not intentional, next time I start a new TL I will make sure I have more details and a more fleshed out plan.

Dude it's all good I've seen and started way worse. I wouldn't mind seeing a plausible and well-planned out President Wallace TL.

Problem is that it is not plausible in 1972, at least not with the stage as starwarsfan has envisioned. You have the New Left in control, and George Wallace who is in opposition to everything the New Left stands for. It just doesn't come together in a way that would be believable.

Exactly, I will eventually reboot this TL, and it will probably be in 1968 instead of 72.

Well now you are working into my TL plans ;) ...................................................................................which I will never get to. :(

Maybe you guys should do a collaborative timeline.
Right now it is really just a host of notes, and the PODs begin...........I believe in 1961, and majorly in 1964. I unwisely dropped it when I decided to take up another story about McGovern winning in '72, but that never got off the ground either. Suffice to say, the Wallace TL (working name "The Dark Days Ahead") I had planned was rather grandiose in scope, involving many many PODs that would add up the '68 election in such a way, the situation turned strongly in Wallace's favor. And even then, he only wins narrowly.

Actually I have two info-boxes in the my Junk Drawer in the Test Message Thread that pertain exactly to that timeline, and should be easy to spot among the rabble. Might have seen them already as far as I know.

And back to the main point (damn my rambling) I just don't have the motivation at this point in time.

As much as I hated Tricky Dick, I'd have voted for him over Wallace.
Wallace was the last harrah for the Jim Crow laws. Wallace wouldn't of had a bats chance in Hell of winning.

That could be interesting, actually.
Alright, I'll be honest and just outright say it. I don't really lack motivation, though that is part of it. The major issue is that I can't really apply my ideas to paper. Yes I can do the research, yes I can plan the general layout, but when it comes time to do the beef of it..............I blank out. Nothing truly comes, don't produce much of anything. So...........if you managed to pair me with a good writer, then we might get it out. Maybe.
