I really have no clue where I should be posting this. Maybe this site isn't even the place for this, but it's the site I use, dammit!
So basically when my mind wanders, I often do dream casting of books into movies. I started writing down my observations while making my way through the A Song of Ice and Fire series. I started reading right before the show came out and at first just asked myself who I would cast in the current show, if I could have anybody working today.
Then I thought, why limit myself? What if I were given billions of dollars to turn every page of the books into a massive series of continuing films? And what if I had a time machine and could pull any actor from any point in history to cast in those films? How many characters would I need to cast if every chapter was filmed? Who would I get to play whom?
So here is my utterly, SUPREMELY nerdy answer in the form of a cast list.
Keep in mind, every actor is cast at the appropriate age (or close to it) of the character. I tried to make sure only actors working as kids played the kids (so no Meryl Streep as Arya, for example.)
Some of them seem a bit outside of the box, but I'm willing to justify most of my picks. I'm a little disappointed with the Dothraki section in general, as I feel I waded into exoticism and used them as a dumping ground for a lot of great Asian actors who deserve better (that said, I'm quite proud of my choice for Khal Drogo.)
Organizing the characters into groups is also not an exact science. If you think anyone's missing, they're probably just in a different section.
A lot of minor characters in here. I tried to get anyone with a few lines who appeared in more than one chapter, assuming the script will include scenes and background not explicitly included in the books. Everyone here should expect a minimum of an hour's screen time.
