A smarter defense tactic :Roby pleads guitly asks for pardon

Let's say Ruby pleads guilty to the lesser charge offered and then his lawyer goes on a publicity tour trying to get Ruby pardoned. Will he have problems getting signatures? Will the governor be under so much pressure he will pardon him?

Becaue TEH EVOL CONSPIRACY wouldn't allow it.

Yeah, I think the pressure would be overwhelming. The smart thing for him to have done is simply plead guilty and wait for the pardon. He was getting a lot of fan mail at first. A lot of Americans thought Oswald simply got what was coming to him.

If he does that, I think there would be a very good chance that Ruby might be granted a pardon.

Dallas, Texas in 1963 was a fervently anti-communist city and a hotbed of the right-wing (Adlai Stevenson was attacked and spit on by a mob there some time earlier). Oswald had defected to the USSR years before, and now he had killed President Kennedy and Officer Tippit - so they would probably think Ruby gave him what he deserved, and act accordingly.

(I saw a news clip from that time where one man said that Ruby "should be given the Congressional Medal of Honor for killing that Communist".)

Also, as I recall, Ruby was already suffering from cancer when he shot Oswald - maybe he could gain a pardon as he might not have much time left to live.

Exactly what I though, it wouldn't even be that controversial. Most people in Texas (Probably even the US as a whole) would figure Ruby gave Oswald what he deserved. You took the words out of my mouth.
