A slightly different Poland

What if Poland had been given all of German prussia none of it went Russia.
After the Soviet Union split in this timeline Russia has no prussian enclave.
Would this make any difference?

Nice map, amusing that you don't show Koenigsberg on it

I wonder what the Polish name for the place would be ?

It was a fairly major port, and a major intellectual city

Would Poland have continued to rely on Gdynia and Gdansk ? Ex-Koenigsberg would certainly have taken on a lot of some of their role

At the least, Solidarnosk would have had their direction changed

But I expect much more, at least with regard to the development of intellectual movements

The Polish name is Krolewiec, pronounced 'kroolevyets'.

Gdynia was built because Poland had no ports; I suspect though that Koenigsburg would not displace Gdynia/Gdansk but rather supplement them in a minor way. Even if the Poles got it, it would likely have been totally levelled by the Russians.

The Russians might have allowed this if they knew they would be totally dominating the Poles in advance - Koenigsburg/Kaliningrad/whatever is obviously a key factor in projecting Baltic sea power.

I guess that it wouldn't be so slightly different. Relations with Lithuania and Poland after the fall of the USSR would be dramatically different. Something like this might even be enough for TTL's USSR to not even fall. The whole butterfly effect thing.

It would be called Krolewiec, as said before.

As for the province itself, under Communist rule it would be Prusy Wschodnie (literally East Prussia), but if the fall of communism happens, it would probably be Prusy Książęce (Ducal Prussia).

i really don think the poles are going to call it ducal prussia, considering it was only called that to distinguish it from western prussia which was controlled by the poles, so it would probs remain east prussia

I do not think Poland would call that province Prussia at all (be it East or Ducal Prussia). For average Pole the very name of Prussia sounds ominious and hostile, because of our history, especially during partitions. I think that new territory would be called "województwo królewieckie" (Królewiec voivodship) or "królewieckie" (Królewiec land) for short.

The "Prussia" name might have make a comeback with the administrative reform in the 90's thought, as it revailed a lot of historical names.

Good point. It could be called Stalinogród (instead of Katowice), but after 1956 (end of stalinism in Poland) it would probably be back to historical name of Królewiec. Prussia is, IMHO, out of the question even after 1990.
