I agree to some point, but there was a lot thing with these state which made a new war unavoideble.

1: To weak Austria, a Austria as weak as in OTL "could" only end up as part of Germany.
2: The feeling of betrayel by the fact that it "seemed" Germans was the only people with no right to National Selfdetermination.
3: The fact that many of the borders was rather arbitary
4: The creation of New Multiethnic states dominated by a single nationality (Poland and Yugoslavia primary, Czechoslovakia secondary)

Solutions
1: A stronger multiethnic Austria with German South Tyrol, Slovenia and Fiume.
2: Drop the whole National Selfdetermination retoric.
3: Adopt some border which make both economical and political sense, give Germany West Prussia (or give Poland East Prussia or even the whole of Germany east of the Oder, even through that could really backfire) and let Slovakia stay Hungarian
4: There're really no soulution to this one except the same one as in Nr. 2.

Exactly. Wilson had tremendous authority in 1919, and could have used it to achieve a workable international system. Instead he created a powder-keg.

Bear in mind also that the Fourteen Points were publicised well before 1918, and would have had a great effect on the thinking of the ethnic leaders in central and eastern Europe.

Well it still stores up problems (Croats, Lithuanians, Slovakians) but it would be better than OTL. Virtually anything would be. Creating a bunch of states in strategic no-mans land between Germany and Russia which are too small to stand alone, but which hate each other too much to combine? Great idea, Woody.

Yes I know, but making the Croats part of Yugolavia was unavoideble, it was therefore I gave Italy the Croatian coast so they had something to hate to unite on, the Slovakians are fucked, but they are the one people most likely to just accept that, Lithuania are going to be the biggest problem, but the Russian threat could with a little luck keep them from rebelling.

Here was my attempt:
