A Romance speaking Muslim nation.

I know in Al Andalus Arabic was the official language, and a Romance one existed that was written in the Arabic script. Suppose a Muslim state continued for much longer than OTL, would this state eventually adopt a Romance language as its official language. I'm kind of curious as to why this didn't happen like it did in Persia.

The native populace of the Moorish states were rather effectively converted to Islam and assimilated into Andalusi culture.

Looking at where Romance languages and the Arabic script intersect, if the decolonization of Algeria goes a lot smoother than OTL you could get an Algerian dialect of French that is written in Arabic script.

Maybe something in North Africa, assuming that their population isn't crippled like in OTL.

Islam is pretty centered around Arabic culture, though, so they're all going to at least try assimilation, either failing like in Persia, or succeeding like in almost everywhere else.

Well, Mozarabic was mainly spoken by city dwellers, whereas the Andalusi peasants generally spoke Arabic. I suppose that a Moorish Iberian state centered in a predominantly urban area may eventually adopt Mozarabic as its official language.

Perhaps if the Aromanians were converted into Islam during the Ottoman era and ended up forming an independent state in the Pindus region around the same time as the Albanians?

If I had been one of those crazy-conspiracy theory prone quasi-fascists I so would have bitterly joked "France, give it twenty years and the majority will be Muslim anyway."

Fortunately, I'm a nice little liberal gentleman who actually favours more open borders. ;)
