A 'Revolutionary' Anglo-French Union

So while I was laying in bed this morning, not wanting to get up, I thought of this idea and figured I'd post it.

Before I go on let me say that, yes I'll be the first to say this is very unlikely to happen, but none-the-less I think it's atleast possible* given the right circumstances.

As we all know France had its first Revolution in the late 18th century, shortly after America's.
Here's where the first PoD would be, let's say that the Revolution manages to be less of a disaster than it was and France manages to become a stable Republic without the extremists gaining ground.

Secondly, let's say that circumstances during the American Revolution are different, and Quebec joins the Revolution, leading to a situation where the newly formed United States comprises all of what would be British North America at the time.
Now, let's say that this, along with perhaps a different George III or British government leads to a Revolution in Britain itself (the Revolution could be a result of popular uprising or ignorant aristocrats getting people into a frenzy to oppose the government backfiring) with the establishment of a British Republic.

Now, let's say at some point in the first half of the 19th century France and Britain, feeling threatened and seeing each other as natural allies (the whole Franco-British rivalry being seen as 'a vile ploy used by the aristocracy and monarchy to keep people from focusing on the real problems') decide to Unite (to what degree would depend on further circumstances).
Europe of course is, to be blunt, likely going to be scared shitless as the two most powerful nations of the civilized world have not only merged, but have a system opposed to their own.

So, opinions, thoughts, Romans?

*If a barbarian on a horse can conquer most of the largest continent on Earth, a middle-class Corsican lacking full military skills can conquer most of Europe and get pretty far into Russia in the Winter before giving up or a random fruit seller in Tunisia can cause a Revolutionary wave, NATO involvement in Libya and the likely toppling of three of the most authoritarian regimes since Nazi Germany I don't see why this would be that impossible.

Conservative backlash from Russia, Austria, and Prussia which would make every power crap their pants at the combination of a powerful navy and a powerful army?

Cue no monarchies remaining in Europe, or anywhere for that matter. ;)

I don't know about that, outside of Europe itself the monarchies either did'nt have anything to do with them or were pragmatic and did'nt really care if you were a monarchy or a republic as long as you had money/were'nt trying to topple their regimes.

Considering the histories and strengths of the two countries in question, I think both sides would see it as an insult that they would need to merge with each other to survive. There was genuine hatred for each other in many tiers of society in both states. I think many English and Frenchmen would rather see their republic collapse and themselves executed as traitors rather than creating an Anglo-French revolutionary union. Even if that state did come into being, as soon as it no longer felt threatened for its existence, it would tear itself apart over the slightest things, such as which capital was more important, which language governments debated in and how (read: from which capital city) the colonies and the military were controlled.

Remember that in 1940, the French preferred surrendering to the Germans over Churchill's plan to unite the two countries in order to keep the French fighting.

Er you have that backwards.

It was the British who turned down the proposal.
