A question/ WI about Prince Phillip

Edward IX

I have a question about Prince Phillip. wish had been a casualty in WWII? He could have been killed at the Battle of Crete or perhaps more interestingly, the Battle of Okinawa, it doesn't really matter where he is killed.

It is well documented that Her Majesty has only loved him, that she met him and began correspondence with him when she was 13. So, if he had died, what would have been the effect? Who would have Her Majesty Elizabeth II married in lieu of him? Would she have "needed" to be married by the time the Crown passed to Her? How would a alternate Consort effected her Reign?

I ask because I thought of writing a short story about an alternate scenario. I am not sure who an alternate suitors would have been. I am also interested in opinions on how long if at all that The Duke of Edinburgh has prolonged Her Majesty's Reign, if at all.

Well this could go one of two ways the first she doesn't marry and in private mourns her childhood sweetheart. I can't say how this would change her reign but I am sure there will be the idea of her piety being pushed as an example by which ever figure feels the need. In short, nearly everything about the royal dynamic drastically changes. Certainly will would be remembering the death of the otl Countess of Snowdon much more while waiting for the eventual coronation of Crown Prince David.
If she marries another then who can say, it all depends on who she marries and in that case it would be anyone's guess.

They'll find someone acceptable.

She only has to think that, absent an heir from her, the crown will pass to her madcap sister or any offspring she had with one of her unsuitable dalliances.

@Edward IX So do a lot of the Windsor women haha
Well her children in the line of succession and considering their father is military they could be alright. They are just so unimportant in terms of the day to day of the state not many people can say if they would have been alright in this atl.

Actually, where and how Philip is killed does matter. If he dies heroically, he'll be one hell of man for anyone she weds to follow. If he dies tragically (the ship goes down, gets ill and dies), he'll be a romantic what-if. If he's shot for cowardice, she will do her best to forget she knew him.
