A question regarding Robert Stuart, Duke of Kintyre and his family

Agreed, did you suggest Tuscany @Valena?

So, for consensus this is preferred to Charles marrying Henrietta hen?
Only if Charles can get a proper protestant princess as bride (aka the daughter of another King) or a Spanish Infanta/Austrian Archduchess
Ferdinand II of Tuscany can work for Henrietta Maria (he is just few months younger than her)
Henrietta was really Catholic right? She would then get along well enough with her mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law (and also sister-in-law aka Vittoria) if she marry in Tuscany

So perhaps surviving Sophia of Denmark?

And she was indeed

So with Charles married to a Danish princess, and Buckingham’s influence greatly reduced, what changes here? Is there more coherent action re the thirty years war? Perhaps a proper coordination with Protestant states for a united front?

And she was not slavishly Catholic unlike Vittoria (though may have seemed one in Protestant country), so TTL Ferdinand II of Tuscany likely wouldn't have any problems with arranging scientific education for his kids (and remembering how Charles II turned out to be OTL, the products of this will be... interesting).

I wonder, if Soissons screws up in his plots against Richelieu as OTL, would he TTL seek refuge in Britain with his sister the Duchess of York?

I think he would do, which could lead to a lot of tension with France perhaps?
Likely. Though I can't see either Charles or Robert liking Soissons all that much, so the odds of successful refuge are proportional to the level of trouble it would be worth.
OTOH Marie de Medici TTL would likely seek refuge in her native Tuscany, and maybe be a presence in life of her Tuscan grandkids (children of Ferdinando and Enrichetta as Henriette will likely be known post her marriage).

Very true, and also how much Charles likes his sister in law an whether she's pleads for her brother also

Well, maybe Richelieu and Louis XIII can be satisfied with England and Tuscany stopping Soisson and the Queen Mother from making more intrigues?

I think that does seem reasonable, of course Charles might worry that someone at court would try to persuade him to use Soisson against France, so, he might try to either use him as leverage, or perhaps simply hand him back over.

Another thing this does change is the potential outlook of England's foreign policy, I imagine, Charles would remain perhaps hostile to both Spain and France, and look to support the Protestants on the continent, which might necessitate an alliance with France for a time, but which could also ensure an alliance with Sweden, and other such nations. Perhaps a son of his and Sophia's could marry a daughter of Gustavus Adolphus?

Possible but maybe he will have his OTL foreign policy and trying to get a Princess of France/Orleans, an infanta of Spain or an Archduchess for his heir. And he will still have loose links with France from his brother's wife. With the OTL situation he will not get a princess of France or Spain because would be none available but likely he will able to choose between the Orleans girls and the Archduchesses

Hmm interesting, given the view of Spain amongst the English public at this time, I think a French bride seems more likely.

How's this sound:

Charles I of England, Scotland and Ireland (b.1600) m Sophia of Denmark (b.1605) (married in 1622)

Surviving Issue:

Anne of England, Princess Royal (b.1623)

Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland (b.1625)

James, Duke of Gloucester and Albany (b.1628)

Mary of England (b.1630)

Henry, Duke of Clarence and Ross (b.1633)

Elizabeth of England (b.1635)

Sophia of Scotland (b.1640)

So perhaps Anne Marie for Charles?
