A question regarding Robert Stuart, Duke of Kintyre and his family

I think she was too hardline Catholic, in hindsight, to marry a Protestant prince, especially a non-reigning one.
OTL Duchess was off the market by 1617. OTL Countess of Soissons, however, is still on the market, provided she is willing to marry a Protestant.
If we are into ATL surviving princesses for BOTH brothers, count of Soissons had a third daughter
  • Charlotte Anne de Bourbon (1608–1623)
So WI instead of dying in 1623 at the age of 15, she becomes the Duchess of York and Kintyre the same year?

Oh I i like that, Charlotte Anne it is then. That'll certainly create some interesting dynamics at court. I do wonder would Charles still go down the same high church route with a Lutheran wife at his side.

Likely, though with more Lutheran motiffs/influence, less Catholic ones. The anti-Calvinist policies will still be encouraged.

Interesting, so, this will perhaps remove the Papist claims against him, and perhaps mean Laud doesn't rise to prominence, though I can still see him looking to impose the Common Book of Prayer on Scotland.

Laud doesn't rise to prominence
In the world where Buckingham does not have such a hold over the King due to the King's different childhood experience (by the way, would Henry still act bullishly to BOTH younger brothers of his), I can't see Laud becoming as significant of a figure as OTL.

Agreed, and I think Henry would act a bit of a bully to both brothers, perhaps not to the extent of otl, but definitely to some extent. And I wonder who could replace Laud as a clerical influence for Charles here, and whether Buckingham would be demoted from office once Charles ascends the throne

For a wife for Bobby what about Charlotte de la Trémoïlle for a French/Dutch connection. She's only 3 years older, she's Protestant and married an Englishman OTL

That could be quite interesting, though would James/Charles go for it?
For the younger brother after more prestigious brides said no? She is a french princess étranger right? If she is well sponsored and has a dowry big enough can work

Hmm this is true, though would there be a preference for her, or Charlotte de Bourbon, who would also likely come with a direct tie to France

Can not tell you who will be favoured as that choice can depend from many reason: age, beauty, dowry, connections, sponsorship, rank....

Very true, I can see the French court looking dower whoever James/Charles chooses for Robert with a huge dowry though

Charlotte de la Trémoïlle for a French/Dutch connection
Wouldn't her Dutch connections be redundant with Elisabeth's match to Elector Palatine, to whom Charlotte is a first cousin? OTOH I can see Elisabeth being happy with Charlotte as her sister-in-law.

Hmm from james view I think so, and I think as you said before, he’d want one of each aha

Charlotte Anne de Bourbon is at least a Bourbon in surname, and is not from family to whose relation Stuarts have already married. I think that a princess from extended royal family (daughter of Monsieur Le Comte) will be offered first over any Princesse Etranger, be it Charlotte Anne or her elder sister, OTL Comtesse de Soissons.

Hmm interesting, what relation was he to the main line?

Count of Soissons was first cousin once removed to Louis XIII (first cousin to Henri IV). Thus his daughters are second cousins to reigning monarch.

Ah I see, so one of them seems likely then or have I misunderstood?
Either sister is fine for Robert if the King of France is willing to give her the same kind of (huge) dowry he would give to his own sisters/daughters
