A question on the US rocket program

Just a simple question:

Where were the major testing sites for rockets and missiles during WWII?

This isn't precisely my area of expertise, but let me have a go at it:

JPL developed JATO rockets in the late '30s, but wasn't officially an Army center until 1944.

White Sands was founded in 1944, but Goddard had been operating from Roswell for several years before that.

Overall, I don't believe that the US made much effort on rockets during WWII, so there really weren't all that many sites. Unfortunately, I'm having a bit of trouble digging up one of my best books, so my imperfect memories and wikipedia are what I'm relying on for what I said.

I believe that a number of the air-ground rockets, such as the 5" FFAR & HVAR and the 'Tiny Tim' were developed at the Naval Ordinance Test Center at China Lake in California's Mojave Desert. The various versions of the 'Bazooka' were initially developed as prototypes in labs at George Washington University, and developed into servicable weapons at the Army's Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland.

As for artillery rockets, in addition to ship & vehicle mounted variants of the FFAR & HVAR, the Navy & Marines used a 4.5" bombardment rocket also developed at China Lake derived from the 'Mousetrap' ASW launcher used by the Navy (comprable to the 'Hedgehog', but very dangerous- the destroyer Turner and destroyer escort Solar were both sunk with heavy loss of life by massive explosions believed to be caused by malfunctioning Mousetraps. The Army had a 7.2" demolition rocket, also derived from the 'Mousetrap,' and developed at China Lake. In addition, the Army had 4.5" bombardment rockets, but I haven't seen anything as to where they were tested, although either China Lake or Aberdeen would be my guesses.

One of the original rockets was the WAC Corporal, tested at White Sands. This was largely overshadowed by the V-2 testing. Incidentally, White Sands State Park does not allow camping in a VW Camper. You have to sleep on the ground with the tarantulas and rattlers.

the first major Test Site for Missle and Rockets
is White Sands near Roswell, New Mexico

already in 1930s used by Robert Goddard to test his rocket there.
1944 February the Ordnance Department check the aera for Missile test
and on 1945 February 20,
The Secretary of War approved the establishment of White Sands Proving Ground.

also in 1945 was establishment of Wallops Flight Facility by NACA Today NASA
for Rocket and Missle test

and Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake
establishment already in 1943

The rest like Fort Bliss, Cape Canaveral AFS, Vandenberg AFB came after WWII

and there is this rumors of Area 51 used for Rocket test durnig WWII
but the fact is The Army used it only for bombing and artillery practice until 1955.
