A question on Charles II of England

Planning an idea where Charles II is restored to the throne following the decision of the military to invite him back, this would take place in 1659.

I'm also thinking that Charles II and Catherine of Braganza have the following kids:

Henrietta (b. 1662)

Charles, Prince of Wales (b. 1666)

Henry, Duke of Clarence and Ross (b. 1668)

Elizabeth (b. 1669)

My question is this, is it realistic to expect that a French marriage would occur for either Henrietta or for the Prince of Wales, and if so, which one is more likely to happen?

Secondly, with the army having been the one to invite Charles back, does this mean the relationship is now between Charles and the army, rather than Charles and Parliament?

The relationship would be between Charles and the stratum of Gentry who provided most Army Officers and MP's in this period, there wouldn't be a significant division. As for a French marriage it's possible but unlikely. By the time they are of marriageable age France is clearly the 800 pound Gorilla of European politics so any marriage alliances would probably be directed against France rather than with France.

Hmm interesting, so perhaps Protestant marriages then?

The civil war and the dislike/suspicion regarding Henrietta Maria would cast a shadow over any potential French match for the heir. Additionally, Louis XIV doesn't have any legitimate daughters and I can't see England being happy with a bastard Queen, so the only option for the POW would be one of his Orleans cousins (unless you want to have one of Louis XIV's daughters by Maria Theresa survive).

Is Charles still dying on schedule? Because if so that might be before he's organised a marriage for the POW, in which case an 18-19 year old Charles III has to sort out his own marriage (possibly with input from his mother?).

This is true I'm thinking that Charles II does die in 1685, although with four children he might actually slow down a bit in the whoring etc. So beteeen 1685-1690 is when he'd die.

And this is true, Catherine might go for a Portuguese marriage for her son

Mary of Modena, If she doesn't marry Old York, is an option

Hmm interesting, there is an eight year age difference though that does raise a few issues.

Unless, I switch Henrietta and Charles birthdates, would that make more sense?
Well, either situation leads to interesting possibilities
Charles marrying the much older Mary means the possibility of no children, leading to Henry of Clarence or his kids taking the throne. Definitely interesting.

Or If Charles is the elder sibling, then he is only four years younger than his bride so kids are much more likelier

This is very true, if butterflies lead to her brother having a son as well as a daughter, could Catherine suggest a marriage to Isabel Luisa, her niece?

Switching to more Italian dynasties is interesting, as it means England will be taking a note of happenings on the peninsula
