A question about Rolls Royce Merlins production

Setting: summer 1940, battle of Britain.

"Something" very very bad happens to the plants building Merlin engines and they stop production.

Does anybody knows how big were the engine stockpiles in the factories building Hurricanes/Spitfires etc i.e. for how long those factories could have still kept working? days? weeks? months?

I think like the Spitfire factories if they were hit there would be a pretty immediate drop off in front line replacements. There was a general panic about that IOTL.

surely they would just rip out merlins from anything that was'nt a hurricane or a spitfire

how many defiant, fulmar, battle squadrons etc were kicking around in 1940?

How about men go on strike because women are working at men's jobs, and then women go on strike for being paid less than men?

The plants in question would be located in Derby and Crewe. Both were attacked by single German bombers. Glasgow and Manchester suffered far more significant raids, but that preceded Merlin production.
