A Question about America

Is the United States eligible to join the British Commonwealth? I'm working on something and wanted to know if this was possible. I'll be slow on responses because I'm logging in from a phone, thanks in advance.

Modern, post 1995 commonwealth of nation ? Yup !
This is the requirement (Wikipedia): be fully sovereign states, recognise the monarch of the Commonwealth realms as the Head of the Commonwealth, accept the English language as the means of Commonwealth communication, and respect the wishes of the general population with regard to Commonwealth membership.

altought recognizing the british monarch as head of the organization, even if it mean next to nothing, would be a VERY contentious point and probably a political suicide

It's probably eligible for membership, but no one would actively seek to join the Commonwealth of Nations.

That's sad, I would have love to see Obama bow in front of the queen, recognizing her as head of the Commonwealth and she would then whisper in his ear: ''My childrens always come back in my fold''

I think there would be a lot of opposition among the existing Commonwealth countries to the USA taking out membership. It would be anti-impeialist sentiment in the third world(yes, they tolerate the UK, but that's because Britain is the whole reason that the Commonwealth, along with its accompanying largesse and geopolitical advantage, exists in the first place), and in the developed countries people would be afraid of their nation losing its "benevolent big brother to the little colonies" status. Basically, if the Commonwealth is your place to shine, you don't want a gigantic new sun moving into the galaxy.

I don't know if the rules allow the existing members to veto a new applicant, but in any case, in the unlikely event of the USA asking to join, there would at least he heavy HEAVY diplomatic pressure for them to withdraw their application.
