A post 1900 events that you feel are under used?

Kennedy choosing not to escalate the war in Vietnam. Assuming he gets shot on schedule, that could make the LBJ presidency very interesting (especially if he gets two terms in, unfettered by war). Maybe I'll write that one day...

Fall 45 = Polish gov't exile [London] flew home to Warsaw to consult with The Russian backed Providential Gov't. and Disappeared.
At the time the UN conference in San Francisco was debating seating the Exile or the Providential Gov't as Poland.
After the US had agreed to seat the Providential Gov't, the news about the Russians arresting the Exiles and transporting them to Moscow for treason trails came out.
WI the exiles hadn't gone, or the news leaked earlier.
