Arthur Bremer, the attempted assassin of Governor George Wallace, had initially sought a chance to kill President Richard Nixon as well, and came his closest on the eleventh of April, 1972, while staying at the Lord Elgin Hotel in Ottawa. While extra security due to anti-war protesters and Quebec nationalists thwarted his plans to shoot Nixon, he got pretty damn close; while the President was midway to his motorcade, Bremer stood in the crowd, armed with a .38. in his suit pocket.

What if Bremer had found an opening? What if he took his chance and opened fire on Tricky Dick, and just so happened to be a bit of better shot than he was with Wallace? What repercussions would his death have, with the succession of Spiro Agnew, the election of '72 with Wallace left unscathed, and Nixon's dealings in Southeast Asia and 'Vietnamization'? A pretty large ripple through time, I'd like to think.
