A peaceful 20th century?

Bring the Spanish Influenza ahead by seven years such that by 1913 there are 70 million dead around the world and global medical authorities have to work together to fight the disease. Avoid the opening of the war by having the royalty of Europe afraid to venture outside of their palaces while the global network of trade slows markedly due to fear of the disease. Afterwards the recovery leads to a global recession, causing an earlier focus in synthetic chemistry that causes certain goods like rubber, oil, and polyester fibers to be made in the 30s and 40s instead of the 40s and 50s. Overall it will slow technology markedly and cause the Russian Empire to keep the Czar a while longer, but you could see a world by the 1960s with technology akin to the late 1930s/early 1940s where decolonization has not happened with few exceptions. The world has not known a major international war since the Napoleanic era though storm clouds are on the horizon and anything is possible...

More-or-less impossible really, with the way Europe was going politically in the Early 20th century, there was going to be a war.

Nothing is inevitable but it is near impossible to stop some type of war with alliances between the major power. A start would be with no assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. With the war delayed Russia would have more time to develop Germans would recognize a two front war is impossible making war less of a option. Maybe Russia would force the Germans into an alliance with Britain and France.

Perhaps a way to do it would be to ensure France and Britain don't become close allies. Didn't the King visit France in 1914 to repair Anglo-Franco relations? Maybe that goes wrong?

Then the whole thing would have another trigger. I don't pretend to be able to predict what such a war would look like, but I am sure, that one way or another, Europe's going to get a war before 1930.

While there will be a lot of disagreement over what the term 'relatively' implies, in general if it had not been for a radical Serbian student in Sarajevo the 20th century may have been relatively quiet.
.

Another thing would have started a war if not that though.
