Assume stronger Soviet aid to Republican Spain, more and stronger International Brigade units, etc etc, and imagine a stalemate in the Spanish Civil War by the summer of 1937.
Such a stalemate could have led to peace talks, and I'm intrigued by the idea of a Korea type partition settlement, with a Leftist Spain carved out of Republican territory and a Francoist Northern and Southwest Spain.
Perhaps there would be no permanent peace, but a series of renewed armistices, and the gradual emergence of two real life different Spains, one more rural, more Catholic, the other more urban, and explicitly anti-Catholic.
