A nuclear Republic of China

may 10 1950 off the cost of Taiwan a nuclear blast happens under water as the Republic of China test it first nuclear weapon. The U.S. In a attempted to hold back communism has secretly sold 4 nuclear bombs and the knowledge to build them to Chiang Kai-shek. Chiang Kai-shek delivers a ultimatum to the Peoples Republic of China demanding return of control of the mainland and Mao Zedong be killed.

Mao's opinion of the nucler bomb -delivered in official stetements- was that it was "a paper tiger".
If I recall correctly, he said something like "even if it kills a million chinese, there will be other 10 millions fighting them"

Mao roars with laughter as the first wave of the PLA hits Taiwanese beaches and is obliterated in nuclear fire, followed by the second wave which, in the process of taking lethal radiation poisoning, crushes KMT forces. Chiang, if he's not dead, is taken back to the mainland for a VERY public execution. Kim Sr. decides now is the time, and America, overwhelmed by two fronts (remember OTL performance during the Korean War), hits the panic button, and Asia gets the short end of the nuclear stick again.

Why would the ROC use nukes against the PRC if all that would happen is a horrible atrocity on the mainland and mass murder in Taiwan from the many mainland Chinese NOT killed by the bombs?

That would be before the UK even had nukes. The US wasn't willing to provide even the UK with the sort of blueprint-level instructions you're talking about, they're certainly not going to give them to the ROC. Besides, if the US wants to ensure the survival of the KMT, all we have to do is put them explicitly under the nuclear umbrella; much less risk of Chiang and/or Mao doing something we don't like that way.

Edit: It would also be illegal under the McMahon Act.

First, the PLA has no way to get to the Taiwanese beaches, so the only land front would be in Korea.

Second, the PLA's successes in Korea was a direct result of MacArther's arrogance. If MacArther had spent a little more time fortifying his position instead of issuing the blind advance of OTL, the Chinese wouldn't have preformed nearly as well as they did OTL. The Chinese might have been held within a few miles of the Yalu river.

Third, (to the OP, not to you), I don't see the U.S.A. giving away Nuclear Weapon technology during the 1950's. I have a hard time seeing it happening even today.

More like Beijing roars with nuclear fire, the leaders of the democratic powers laughing at the PLA who attempt to land on the shores of Taiwan only to be decimated by the USN.

The USSR delivers a counter-ultimatum to the Republic of China stating that if nuclear weapons were used, the the USSR would invade and/or nuke Taiwan.

Britain (which already recognised the PRC) states its neutrality if such a conflict were to occur. France urges Taiwan to persue re-unification by peaceful means. Taiwan backs down.

The USA is seen as a source of instability in East Asia, and may not even be able to achive enough support for military intervention when North Korea invades South Korea the next month.

ASB!!.....I do not think that the US will just toss Nukes around to allies, and especially not if they have a suicidal wish, to actually use them?

I wonder how the Soviets will react....!

ASB.

Still even if it wasnt Taiwan and Mainland China are in worse shape the USA is seen as a rouge state.

In short Stalin wins.
