Intro:
No nation has friends, only interests. Germany, the old enemy, lays dismantled, divided into a series of small states before an ascendant France, as is the natural order of Europe. German coal and steel feed into the French economy, and German troops drill under French generals. All the finances of western Europe moves through Paris and all trading is done with the French currency, the Euro. Just as to the east of the Iron Curtain the Soviets rule their satellite states with an iron fist, to the west of it the lesser powers of Europe are corralled into the French continental system. Europe stands divided between these two superpowers, nuclear weapons trained at each other, tanks, guns and troops massed at each other's borders, but a third superpower lays across the waves. The United States reigns supreme in the Americas and extends its influence into Asia and over Britain, that country having been forced out from the continent and forced out from its Empire. Britain was weak, France will be strong.

De Gaulle had lived the collapse of his nation, and he had almost lived to see it collapse a second time. No enemy, be they the Soviets in the East or the Anglo-Saxons in the Atlantic, or most of all, be they enemies from within, will ever threaten his Republic ever again.
