A new Israel?

The Madagascar Plan was a suggested policy of the Nazi government to forcibly relocate the Jewish population of Europe to the island of Madagascar.

WI this had been acheived and the Jews were spared the holocaust? Would the state of Israel exist today as we know it or would Madagasgar become the new Jewish State? What relationship would it have with, lets say, South Africa. ATL welcomed.

Justa thought! :rolleyes:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madagascar_Plan#cite_note-contemplation-0

Hitler intended this to be a police state with the Gestapo harshly controlling Jewish life. It was not to be an independent republic.

I also don't know what the natives would have thought. They would probably have been passified by the Gestapo as well, but I can't see them taking too kindly to the Jews taking over their land.

I would expect that there would be some attempt near the end of the war (assuming the Allies win) to begin exterminating the population. Whether the natives would help or try to oppose it is hard to tell.

I doubt that the British forces in southern Africa would be able to do much to save the Jews.

In the end, I think a large number of the Jews on Madagascar are massacred. The survivors do not want to stay on an island where they were moved against their will and their families were massacred, and they call for a Jewish state in Palestine. This then really merges back into OTL.

far more intresting would be an Axis victory or stealmate, since the axiom was losing the war = final solution (and i'm not so sure about it) the "resettlement" in Madagascar could be a triky situation.

Germany could play the settlers against the natives (since they would care the survival of neither) and even gain a propaganda victory of sort out of it.
