I think The United States only lost 81 troops killed and alot of the allies who were killed happened to be so due to friendly fire! If the United States had a much tougher time in 'liberating' Kuwait, how would it have influenced their political and military bosses with respect to the possibility of the post 9/11 invasion?
One possible way to have made this war harder for them would be to have troops directly helping the marsh Arabs in their struggle against Hussein and also assisting the Kurds, when both groups rose up in such an expectation, as they were led to believe!
Also, if Israel did not hold their fire in the face of Saddam's scuds landing on their homeland, it would have complicated things considerably!
