Okay, I wasn't sure if shock and awe was a specific doctrine, or just a possibly hyperbolic term applied to America's overwhelming military force. And in Serbia, it was not accompanied by a ground invasion. I would find it hard to believe that the Serbian military would have been able to operate effectively under these conditions.
Either way, they get the job done in the end.
And wargames are always tricky. Ideally they are ways to safely experiment with war, but in practice they are often political publicity stunts or saber-rattling. I can believe that an officer from a modern military could figure out a way to exploit blind-spots and weaknesses in our doctrine. And we should prepare for this worst case scenario, any attempt to artificially nerf the OPFOR is counter-productive. But I don't know whether the military of any nation we are likely to face would have such a genius strategist in their ranks. In at least the 'Axis of Evil', competence could be an impediment to a career in the military.
