A more co-operate Commonwealth ?

Commonwealth of Nations
an intergovernmental organisation of formerly parts of the British Empire.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_of_Nations

Wat If the Commonwealth had became more like European Economic Community.
with Pound Sterling as a currency union like the Euro in EU ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Economic_Community

and form join Venture Programs to benefit the Commonwealth
like Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow surivies as Commonwealth Combat Fighter (CCF).

or Commonwealth Space Agency (CSA)
there were proposal for Commonwealth Space Program using Black Prince Rocket.
but sadly nothing became from the Idea

Difficult. Comes down to an issue of representation. Just as the EEC evolved into the EU the question will arise of representation.

Most of the developed nations would resent a: their currency being influenced by the developments of African nations, b: the potential risk in having to defend/deploy troops/peacekeepers to unstable parts of the Federated Commonwealth c: the potential political dominance of an Indian or African bloc in any federated body/parliament. Whether this is based on cold hard power real-politik or merely that Canada, Australia, New Zealand and a few others would resent being dominated at this supra-government level by a black African bloc - potentially radical is a unsavory and ugly question indeed. This also raises the question of local authority and things like immigration. Australia for a long time even into the 1970s maintained a strong majority white immigration only policy.

Depending on who'se in it, this federated commonwealth would be deeply divided and frankly, it would take some real poltical doing to see it work.

The only real way to have a federated commonwealth (for lack of a term) is to have a PoD in the late 1890s when men like Alfred Deakin and Joeseph Chamberlain were touting the concept. Even then, at the zenith of Empire, it still didn't work.

This makes me want to come up with a Anglowank where a slightly authoritarian Empire survives to this day...

and wat if this only for the members of Commonwealth realm ?
(the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and Jamaica.)

can that work ?

The final form of government would need to be something pretty dammed devolved, more like an Association of Nations rather than Imperial Federation. The empire is just too dispersed to have any kind of centralised government, let alone the cultural, racial or language aspects. Even "loyal" NZ would balk at any kind of too close relationship of governance past the late 19th century (1880s).

Perhaps there could be some sort of "circle" system, where the various parts of the Empire or Commonwealth collaborated closely, with the Core keeping control of whatever was deemed so important as to require their attention. Perhaps it could be grouped as per below

1. Central America (the islands, Honduras etc)
2. North America (Canada, Newfoundland)
3. Southern Africa (SA, Rhodesia
4. India (Burma/Raj/Ceylon/etc)
5. Australasia/Pacific (Australia/NZ/various islands)
6. Britain (...)
7. Middle East

second attempt

On 3 May 1960 the Great Britan applied to join the European Economic Community
but French President Charles de Gaulle voted against that
He believed that British membership as a Trojan horse for US influence

so Wat If GB after this debacle, decides to create a Economic Community inside of Commonwealth ?
with Canada, Australia, New zeeland (and later other members of Commonwealth)

There is some cooperation to build on but Canada and South Africa are the major problems, as is Britain itself. Canada leans toward the massive power of the US and South Africa became a racist Republic. Britian decided to withdraw from the world after Suez in 1956, long before it was rebuffed for EEC membership.

So i need a POD bevor 1956 and were Suez crisis never happend
and bevor Canada fall in hands of John Diefenbaker.
Mabye in 1953 Anthony Eden operation to remove gallstones, never had his bile duct damaged ?

a much early POD give also a bonus
the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow can survies as Commonwealth fighter
and mabye a Commonwealth Spaceprogram based on Blue Streak Missile

Any suggestions, dear members ?

How about this as a POD.

In 1938 when the US is designing the M1 Carbine the decision is made to use the .276 Pedersen round rather than the god awful jumped up pistol cartridge that was the .30 Carbine.

The M2 Carbine is genuine if somewhat fragile assault rifle and changes American thinking regarding a new rifle and cartridge. As a result, a refined version of the .276 cartridge is adopted as the 6.8mm NATO

Since it is easier and cheaper to rechamber a rifle for a smaller round rather than a larger one, Britain is able to retain the EN2 rifle and Taden gun.

However, in the lead up to Suez, Eden calls on the Commonwealth Realms for support. Instead, Canada, Australia and New Zealand threaten to cancel their initial orders of Modern british equipment and adopt the Fusil Legere and the Mini-Mi. Realising that to press on would mean the loss of a major industrial and trading contract and a huge split with the Commonwealth, a confidence motion is passed in the UK Parliament, which Eden duely loses. Without British support France, fearing a similar reaction within the emerging united institutions in Continental Europe pulls the plug.

An Ironic twist to this TL is that due to the Suez crisis, the other Commonwealth Realms are more enthusiastic about a closer commonwealth than Britain.

Australia and NZ give orders for the Arrow, partly as a gesture of Commowealth solidarity and partly as a snub to the mother country.

Canadian industry expands and Britain is interested enough to request a license build, which is duely granted.

Come Vietnam and the announcement of Australian involvement, Britain, desperate to reassert itself as the dominant influence within the Commonwealth, commits troops ...
