A moment of Sanity: Trosky accepts Brest-Litvosky offer

POD: January, 12th, 1918: Leon Trosky is taking a moment of rest in his quarters between meeting with the German delegates. The imperialistic pigs want more territory than what he's willing to give them, at least his government is on the offensive in the Ukraine. Then the chair the revolutionary diplomat was sitting on collapsed due to a faulty leg, when he arose, he suddenly realized just how precarious the revolution is....

Jan 26, 1918: The treaty of Brest-Litvosky is signed between Bolshevik Russia and the German Empire, Austira-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. Russia grants "independence" to Luthania and Poland. In lieu of any payment of indemnities and some informal guarantees that Germany will not interfere (too much) in Lavitia and the civil war for the time being, Russia is also to cede Erdehan, Kars, and Batum to the Ottoman Empire.

On the Western Front Ludendorf and Hindenburg, while glad that the war in the east is over, are quite worried over the growing number Americans in France, if not in the trenches yet. The upcoming offensive must be made to successed, fortunately that Hutier fellow have given them an ace in the sleeve...

To clarify, the POD is that Trosky accepts the terms the Germans offered OTL instead going the "no peace, no war" path.

OK, so this frees up German troops earlier and limits the successes on the eastern front for the Germans?

This may increase the chance for a stalemate peace treaty in the west which accepts Brest-Litowsk? Brest-Litowsk IOTL was just to much to swallow for the Allies.

Late Jaunary-Mid March 1918

Jan 28: On the Dnieper, the Russian Bolshevik offensive have pushed the forces of the Ukrainian People's Republic out of their capital of Kiev. With the Germans distracted, there isn't the foreign intervention needed to save independent Ukraine from going under. [1] By late Febuary, Ukraine is under the control of the Red Army, pockets of resistance do linger, and this control is none too firm. Already, though, Lenin is turning his attention to the other rebellious parts of the former Russian empire...

In northwestern France, Entente is doing less well, fresh from the shock of Russia's withdraw from the war, British and French troops awoke on March 14 to short but massive artillery bomardments by German forces, followed by waves of stormtroopers systematically exploiting their weak points. Ludendorff's Spring Offensive is beginning in ernest[2]

Entente Front line units find themselves gassed, shelled, then cut off from their headquarters by stormtroopers and overran by waves of regular assaults. By the 15th, German troops have captured more territory than the entire 120 day British Somme Offensive in 1916, with a fraction of the casualties

[1] OTL the Russians took Kiev and was pretty much set to win against the Ukrainian rebels, but then Brest-Litvosky forced them to withdraw their troops
[2] This offensive is launched both earlier and with more preparation and somewhat more resourses than OTL due to Russia's earlier surrender
